The Kline's Visit

The Klines Visit

Had a great time with my sister, her two boys, and her daughter Carly last week. The boys were able to join us for VBS two evenings. We spent one day at Discovery Place Kids, one at the park, and another at Nana and Papa's pool. We celebrated my sister's birthday and also Carly's first birthday. The kids are all growing up so fast!! Hope you enjoy the slideshow!

Huntington Green

So, what's Huntington Green?

Huntington Green is a low-income trailer park located only minutes away from our house. There are many Mexican families there and it has been a wonderful opportunity for me to practice my Spanish! My former boss, Anne (from working in children's ministry at my church) started a ministry for children there a few years ago and I have helped her out from time to time. God has since laid it on my heart to get more involved there and so I have created a "Mommny & Me" monthly morning out for mothers and preschoolers. Tomorrow is the last one until September. In the fall we will resume that program as well as start a 2 day a week preschool!!! I am already in the process of lesson planning and gathering supplies. I hope to have 7 children (and Jeremiah, too) in my class. Our classroom as of now will be under a tree in the park!! I hope to have some sort of building to use when the weather is bad, but that is up to God to provide.

Ken has also been involved with the children there. Every Thursday during the month of May he held a soccer practice for children ages 5-12. The kids came early each week because they were so excited to get started. One Saturday during the month he led an afternoon clinic. He was able to share the gospel to the children using a soccer ball with patches of color that related to different parts of the gospel. Although we didn't have as many children as we would have liked, there were lots of volunteers and they had a lot of fun. We hope those volunteers will return again in the fall and it will be even bigger and better!

This summer I will be teaching VBS at my church for one week and then turning around and teaching the same age group at the church in Huntington Green. They will also have a 2 week camp there and I am going to have to write the curriculum for the preschoolers (and teach it). I am so excited to be entrusted with this opportunity - even if the rooms are cramped, the supplies are limited, and the funding is low! It has been a great learning experience!

I hope to have many more updates for you soon!
